AYURVEDA FOR YOGA TEACHERS

Embodying the Alchemy of Healing

This training is suitable for yoga teachers and practitioners interested in understanding Ayurvedic Medicine for themselves and others.

Ayurveda for Yoga Teachers

Ayurveda is an ancient science, art and philosophy recognized as one of the most important healing practices in modern medicine. It offers blueprints for a healthy way of life through preventing illness and living in harmony with nature and her biorhythms. Ayurveda and Yoga are intimately related as both were born from the same philosophy – Samkhya. They were brought up together as sister-sciences in India and were always recognized as two systems that enrich one another; when practiced and taught together, they encourage greater movement toward self-realization.

KIND WORDS

It was so valuable to gain deeper understandings of Ayurveda - the doshas, gunas and elements and appropriate medicine for balancing health. There were many new insights, understandings and inspirations that I will sprinkle into my teaching, work and lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your lifetime of wisdom and experience, Alana!

What will I be able to do?

Upon graduation, you will have metabolized the fundamental healing principles of Ayurveda and have the embodied wisdom to offer personalized private sessions and dosha-specific classes, plus other classes inspired by Ayurvedic concepts.

This program doesn’t certify to become an Ayurvedic Practitioner, yet you will be empowered to view yourself, your loved ones and students through Ayurveda’s unique lens and share from the deep reservoir of learned experience, adding distinctive value to your teachings and offerings.

  • Beginning Sept and running through December, in partnership with Five Pillars Yoga of NYC. This program will be online and can be taken module by module, or as a whole course of study for YTT credit. YACEP CEU’s available.

Spring, 2023 at the Art of Living Retreat Center for the NAMA conference (National Ayurvedic Medical Association) I will be presenting on Alchemical Healing with Ayurveda and Aromatic Marma Chikitsa.

What will I learn?

In this 50-hour module we will experience the multidimensional healing that arises when we weave Ayurvedic wisdom through our Yoga practice, rendering our teaching a form of moving medicine. Topics covered will include:

  • The alchemical power of prana through dosha-appropriate pranayama, bandhas, visualizations and meditations.

  • Aromatherapy protocols that anoint specific Ayurvedic marma points with essential oils to bring the doshas into balance.

  • Ayurvedic nutrition, the power of agni (our metabolic fire), and how we can more digest our life’s experiences for overall benefit.

    • Deep dive into the five elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. We will attune to our relationship with them and learn self-care rituals that correspond to the elements and their associated organs of perception.

    • We will experience Sanskrit mantra as an intentional healing agent.

    • Explore what happens when the elements coalesce and form the three psychophysiological forces (doshas), namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha. We will learn how to design and sequence yogic practices that address symptoms and imbalances in the doshas, focusing on dristi, language cues and appropriate modifications.

    • Create our own dinacharya (daily self-care regimen) as we discover our prakruti (original nature) and vikruti (current state of health) according to Ayurveda’s unique assessment paradigm.

KIND WORDS

Alana’s unique teaching style made complicated concepts and philosophies simple to understand and now I feel ease in applying what I learned right away. I had read books and tried to study Ayurveda myself, but being with her made me feel like I got it in a full-body sense. Ayurveda is beautiful and I’m grateful to adhere to its lifestyle wisdom!
